During class April 17, we did an overview of what the class will cover and in general how each session will be formatted. We looked at a few examples of what we will be doing in the coming weeks.

The primary topics for the evening were TRIPODS and FILTERS. You can follow the links to read the articles on these topics elsewhere at this site.

We did a quick look at Slide Sandwiches and PROJECTED IMAGES.

The first topic next week will be EXPOSURE.  You can read ahead for next week if you like.  It will help with our exposure class if you purchase a simple cardboard "18% GRAY CARD" before our next class session. These are usually available at Norman Camera.

Our first field trip will be Friday April 20 with a backup date of Thursday, April 26. We will meet at Sugarloaf Lake about 20 minutes before Sunset. Sugarloaf Lake is on Shaver Road just south of the city of Portage and 1/2 mile north of the intersection of Shaver Road and US 131.

Buy some 100 speed slide film. My preference is Kodak Elite Chrome Extra Color 100. This is usually on sale in a two pack at Norman Camera. This is the amateur version of Kodak professional E100VS.

There are a number of excellent nature photography books in print.  The one I highly recommend if you get only one nature photography book: John Shaw's NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY FIELD GUIDE.  If we had a textbook for class, this would be it. The earlier version of this book is also available: The Nature Photographer's Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques.
