November 12, 2001 We continued our look at practical applications of the equipment, skills, and techniques we have been learning. We looked at Winter Spring and Summer slides taken last April (in the Michigan UP, Portage, and Florida) and how to work a subject, use filters, and meter for tricky lighting situations. We also talked about manually setting a flash unit to "wide aperture coverage" for close-up work. We looked at two locations in southwest Michigan to do flower photography: Trillium Ravine Nature Preserve and Fernwood Gardens. Both of these are near the Walton Road exit (Exit 7) on US 31. In a previous class we explored how to combine images as a slide sandwich in a slide projector. Tonight we looked at projected images. This is a way to use a slide projector to project one image on to another subject and re-photograph the combination. We went outside to practice shooting light trails. We came back in and reviewed student work. We then looked at another way to work with depth of field. More on this in a new page on depth of field. We finished class by looking at film history, film life, and film storage. We will have a field trip this Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the Episcopal Cathedral. From Oakland Drive, and just north of I-94, go west past the Park and Ride lot. The cathedral is one long, long block west of Oakland and just north of I-94. |
