HOW THIS SITE (AND OTHERS) CAME TO BE
Family, friends, and my photography students had been asking me to put up a web site to show some of my photos and post some of my photography
articles.
A little incident with broken ribs and the resulting limitations on my travel gave me the time to put up a simple website. (Thanks go to Kim for the broken
ribs!) I didn't know anything about HTML or how to put up a web site, but I discovered Angelfire which made it simple, and launched my first web site and I posted photos of family and friends. I also learned a little HTML.
My students at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts asked me to add photo lessons to my site, so I added "how to" pages,
plus travel, landscape, nature, closeup and digital photography. You can find all of this at Jim's Photo Page, launched in November 1999.
One thing leads to another. In December 1999, I began a simple web site for the Kalamazoo congregation of the Community of Christ.
I discovered Net Objects Fusion (NOF), which is great software for web publishing. This made developing a web site much easier and faster.
Using NOF, in one evening my son Jared and I put together a simple informational site about Camp Manitou, a Community of Christ campground near Marcellus, Michigan. This site began in April 2000. The Kalamazoo web site was upgraded with NOF.
In late 1999 I reserved the domain name JimDoty.com. On December 17, 1999 I put up a one page marker site with links to the other web sites mentioned above.
I added 2 pages to this site in May and a few more pages in mid-June. Finally, on June 25-26, 2000, I divided this site into sections and added 30 pages. I consider June 25 the official launch date of this site.
JimDoty.com is now my primary photography site with access to the other web sites. Come back to any of these sites any time!
