Kroger Panorama

The Kroger store in the Graceland Shopping Center (Columbus Ohio) is one of our favorite places to shop. As I was looking at all of the colorful produce I got the idea this would be an interesting place to do a panoramic photo. Since I have prior photo connections with the right people at Kroger, I asked permission to do a photo shoot. A date and time were set and I showed up to do my thing. The people at Kroger were all super nice and helpful to work with from the executives who arranged the shoot, to the store manager, to the head of the produce department, to the stock clerks.

The displays usually face the customers as they enter the produce area, but we rearranged some of the closer displays so they would face the camera. As people loaded up their carts in the midst of my shoot, some alert stockers replenished the displays.

I used Really Right Stuff pano gear described in Living in Panorama Heaven. There were people coming and going all the time. My shutter speed was long enough that people far away didn't show up in the photo unless they were standing still. If someone was really close, I would wait to take that particular frame until they moved on.

I took a total of nine overlapping photos and stitched them together with the "Photo Merge" function in Photoshop CC. The full sized pano would print out at 14x60 inches and could probably interpolate up to a print 28x120 inches in size.

This photo will give you an idea of some of the detail in the original image.

A big thanks to all of the people at Kroger that helped make this happen!
