Monday, October 15, 2001 CLOSEUP PHOTOGRAPHY After a question and answer session, the major topic of the evening was closeup photography. There is an article on this topic elsewhere at this web site. We looked at several ways to do closeup photography, primarily single and double element closeup filters, extension tubes, teleconverters and macro lenses. We also looked at slides to see examples of what is possible with each of these closeup tools. Included in the slides were the use of focusing sliders or rails, bellows, and a macro flash bracket. Photographic Light The second topic was photographic light. The light is usually more important than the subject. We looked at several subjects in two kinds of light and then more subjects in a wide variety of lighting conditions. We also looked at ways to control light with diffusers and reflectors in macro situations. REVIEW We reviewed student work as the final portion of our class. ASSIGNMENT Go out and look for fall color to shoot. Look for closeup of leaves, or branches our whole trees. Keep the sky out of you photo if it is gray, include it if it is blue. Try backlit leaves if it is sunny. Use polarizing or enhancing filters if appropriate. NEXT WEEK Our primary topic for class next week will be flash photography. Next week will also be a big handout week. |
