Mating Ritual of the
Bishop's Weaver

Bishop's Weaver Male

A male Bishop's Weaver (Orange bishop) displaying for a femal.

Bishop's Weaver Nest

The male weaving the nest (on the left) and the female examining the nest on the right.

Bishop's Weaver Female

The female shows her approval of the male's work by showing her willingness to mate with a horizontal flutter of her wings.

Bishop's Weaver Mating

The male and female mating. This whole sequence of behaviors was repeated several times.

The exotic foreign jungle where I was fortunate enough to observe and photograph this ritual was in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Frederik Meijer Gardens.
