		The client was hopeful that the image could be digitally restored without changing the old look. The client wanted the large tear marks and major stains eliminated, but the client did not want all of the scratches removed. The photo was not to be obviously sharpened, keeping the overall softness. I began using the CLONE tool to remove the large tear marks, some small tears, and some of the larger scratches. Smaller scratches were left in at the client's request.


	This old photograph was brought to me for possible repair. It is the only known existing copy of an important photo of family history. The image had been torn in three pieces. The pieces had been taped together on the back and placed in an oval mat. The image was larger than my flat bed scanner so I scanned the middle, the top, and the bottom and stitched them together in Photoshop using overlapping LAYERS.

Since the original was oval shaped, the CLONE tool was used to enlarge the image to a rectangular shape, giving the client more matting options. The CLONE tool was also used to eliminate the large stains. The CONTRAST was selectively increased to bring out the two persons in the background.

Someone had taken ink and drawn in pupils for the two foreground persons but this look unnatural. One of the pupils was inked in at the wrong place in the eye. These ink marks were removed with the CLONE tool and the pupils were were re-done with a softer brush to match the overall look of the image. The image was completed with a judicious use of the UNSHARP MASK filter.
