Unless the sun is low in the sky, I don't like to film people in direct sunlight. On sunny days I prefer to shoot in open shade (see Nicole's picture), or with the subject backlit by the sun.

A light overcast sky, just enough clouds to soften the shadows, is my favorite light for shooting people out of doors. This picture was taken on a day with soft light due to the thin, hazy clouds softening. My favorite kind of portrait light.
